OPERATIONS COST ANALYST

 

Location: St. Louis, MO 

Position Summary

Perform duties required to maintain, monitor, and enhance the financial reporting systems. Coordinate the cost accounting functions of the company as they relate to inventory and all aspects of the manufacturing operations. Develop reporting capabilities and interpret accounting records for management. Manage the systems aspect of the annual budget process and coordinate with team members in St. Louis and Montgomery.

Job Functions

  • Monitor the daily activity processing through the ERP.
  • Ensure reconciliation of the subledger to the general ledger.
  • Audit, monitor and maintain the various security levels and user access in each of the systems to maintain confidentiality of the data.
  • Verify manufacturing accounting data and related reporting is accurate and timely.
  • Assist and train individuals using the various systems and troubleshoot/resolve problems, working with the IT team as needed.
  • Make changes to existing reports to meet changing requirements in the reporting process as they are defined by management.
  • Develop new reports as necessary to improve the reporting process and help streamline the closing process.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate dissemination of financial statements to management.
  • Manage the technical aspects of the annual budgeting process covering manufacturing cost accounting (standards, variances, material/labor/overhead inflation, etc.). Coordinate this process with all St. Louis and Montgomery team members involved in the budgeting process.
  • Lead the annual standard cost roll coordinating between St. Louis and Montgomery team members.
  • Maintain all aspects of the company’s Simplified LIFO Calculation including the monthly valuation of inventory at both FIFO and LIFO which requires the updating of the Producer’s Price Index published by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
  • Provide management with reports and graphs that track inventory trends and project calculated work-in-process valuation.
  • Participate in the design, development, and implementation of policies and procedures for all aspects of the company’s financial operations with specific emphasis on cost control procedures.
  • Lead and direct the annual physical inventory process.
  • Monitor cycle count programs and their results.
  • Manage the write off and disposition of inventory against the slow moving and obsolete reserve as well as the tracking of scrap and cost of quality for the business.
  • Prepare detailed analysis of manufacturing variances for management review.
  • Provide outside auditors with various schedules pertaining to inventory. 

Position Qualification Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or extensive knowledge of the principles of manufacturing cost accounting.

Experience: Five to ten years’ experience in an accounting related position in a manufacturing environment including direct involvement with manufacturing costing for inventory (preferably standard costing) and related management reporting.  

Skills/Knowledge: Communication, analytical, detail orientation and problem-solving skills. Teamwork skills with experience in addressing issues involving multiple subjects (information technology, manufacturing, purchasing, etc.)

Physical Activities/Demands: Normal office environment which requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and see.  May involve the ability to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects of up to 15 to 20 pounds, infrequently.
