Residential and Steel Door

Frequently Asked Questions
Hager Companies
Q: Why does Hager not provide template drawings for residential grade hinges?

A: Residential hinges are not manufactured to template hole patterns and are not held to the same standards as commercial grade hinges; therefore, templates are not required.

Q: Why does Hager not provide the same sample color chips for residential hinges?

A: In several cases the plating process is different and residential hinges are not polished in the same manner as commercial grade hinges; therefore, the finish would appear differently. Currently Hager supplier finish boards with the various finishes. Finish chips are also available to viewing on the Hager Web Site.

Q: What is the material thickness of Hager’s residential hinge? What is the pin diameter for Hager’s residential hinge?

A: The hinge thickness is 0.085” and the pin diameter is 0.234”

Q: What exotic finishes does are available with Hager’s residential hinge?

A: US10B Antique Bronze = ABZ US15A Antique Nickel = AN

Q: How does an RC1841 differ from an RC 1842?

A: The difference is in the packaging. RC1841’s are bulk – assembled, 100 each in a master carton and RC1842’s are packed 1 pair or 2 – each in a box, with either 25 pair or 50 pair per master carton. This depends on the hinge size.

Q: Are decorative tips available in any other finish other than US3?

A: No – there are no other finishes available for decorative tips, at the present time.

Q: Does Hager provide wide throw or swing clear hinges in a residential weight?

A: No – Not at the present time.

Q: Can RC1847 be supplied in 4.5 x 4.0?

A: No – This is not a product at this time.

Q: What is the hole spacing for 1741 & 1752 4.0 x 4.0 hinges?

A: This hole pattern is referred to as a non-template hole pattern.

Q: Can we supply RC1847 in 4.5 x 4.0?

A: This hinge is not available in a 4.5” x 4.0” size.

Q: What is the hole pattern for RC1847?

A: This hole pattern is referred to as a non-template hole pattern.

Q: A Customer has placed on order for 400 each, of the 87413.5” x 3.5” ABA. This item has a lengthy lead- time. Which hinge would you recommend that could be shipped in a more timely manner?

A: he RC1841 3.5 x 3.5 ABA bulk assembled would be a more common hinge, with the possibility of being in inventory.

(The RC1841 3.5 x 3.5 ABA is the same hinge as the 8741, only assembled. A Customer may request unassembled hinges for pre-hung doors or other applications. It is suggested to review the order with the Customer prior to substituting the RC1841. Both the 8741 and the RC1841 are located in the Residential section of Hager’s current catalog.)

Q: A Customer wants 50 each of the RC1841 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" hinges in stainless steel. What hinge should be recommended?

A: The proper hinge to recommend would be, RC1542 3 1/2" x 3 1/2"

(The RC1841 3 1/2 x 3 1/2" is a steel hinge with 5/8" radius corners.
The RC1542 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" is the stainless steel version of this hinge.

Another difference between the two parts is the RC1841 is bulk assembled, while the RC1542 is packed pair per box. As the Customer is ordering less than 100 each, the pair per box version should be offered (versus a bulk assembled version of the stainless steel hinge). All of Hager's bulk assembled and bulk unassembled hinges are sold in multiples of 100 each.)

Q: A Customer requests a RC1842 hinge in stainless steel. What hinge is recommended for this application?

A: The correct hinge for this application is Hager’s RC1542.

(The RC1741 is located in the Residential section of the current Hager catalog. The RC1741 is manufactured from a steel material and features round corners with a 1/4" radius. In this same section the RC1541 is identical to the RC1741 with the exception the hinge is manufactured from either brass or stainless steel. The RC1541 also features 1/4" radius round corners. The RC1841 is the bulk assembled version of the RC1842, and is also manufactured from a steel material. The RC1542 is identical to the RC1842 with the exception the hinge is manufactured from either brass or stainless steel. The RC1542 is packed 2 each per box and features 5/8" radius rounded corners, the same as the RC1842.)
