Commercial Hinges - Half Mortise Hinges

Frequently Asked Questions
Hager Companies
Q: My hinge has a 90º bend, yours is more like a 45º; can Hager make a 90º bend?

A: No – Hager changed their die configuration a number of years ago to have the 45º angle on the return section to the knuckle on the frame leaf. If replacing a damaged hinge, all three hinges should be replaced at the same time. If this is accomplished, the degree of return will have no effect.

Q: Can Hager provide a half-mortise hinge with a welded knuckle?

A: Yes – Standard hinges will have the required screw counter-sunk holes for the door leaf but the hinge knuckle may still be welded. If welding is necessary in the field, only order paint finish, do not order a plated finish; as the finish will be removed during welding.

Q: Does Hager have a wide throw half-mortise hinge for recessed doors?

A: No – This application is not a good suggestion and Hager does not offer this type of hinge.

Q: Does Hager have a 3.5” or 4.0” half-mortise hinge?

A: No – The sizes range from 4.5” to 6.0”.

Q: Can a BB1109 be used on a bevel edged door?

A: Yes – The degree of open between a square-edged door and a beveled-edged door does not make a difference in the swing of the door leaf of the hinge. This hinge may be used on either a square-edged or bevel-edged door.

Q: I want to surface apply my hinge to the face of the frame and mortise the door. What hinge do I need?

A: Half-Mortise See the General Information section of the catalog, Basic Hinge Selection – This will provide the various types of hinge and their applications.
