January 8, 2018 – 3300 Series Grade 3
We added the 3300 Series Grade 3 tubular leverset to our lock line. Offered in four functions – passage, privacy, entry and single dummy, along with five finishes: US3, US10B, US15, US26, US26D. It’s field reversible with a thru-bolt design for ease of installation. This Grade 3 lock provides a perfect solution for multi-family and assisted living facilities when suiting with Grade 1 and Grade 2 products.

Case Studies

We are constantly asking our sales representatives for projects that we can use in case studies and project profiles.  With blogs and social media now part of mainstream reading, content marketing has become imperative in order to share your brand and message.

We asked Tess Wittler, an experienced construction marketing professional, to share why case studies are important for our, and your, business and how it isn’t as daunting as one may think to write one. The Framework for Writing a Compelling Case Study by Tess Wittler

Does hearing the phrase, “We need a case study written on [blank]” make you cringe? If you are like many other architects, engineers and building material manufacturers I’ve worked with, you would rather pluck out every single nose hair one by one than write a case study. For ages, writing a case study in this industry seemed daunting and tiring, and when it was finished, it seemed as if you’d spent all this energy to create a dry, boring marketing piece that would rarely be used.

Not so! Content marketing has transformed how we look at our marketing materials, including case studies. In fact, according to the 2016 B2B Content Marketing Trends – North America study conducted by the Content Marketing Institute / MarketingProfs, 82 percent of those responding said they use case studies as one of their content marketing tactics – second only to social media content (other than blogs).

Yes, despite so many in the building industry recognizing that they need to invest more in their content marketing efforts, many still aren’t – and their lack of energy toward this effort is precisely the opportunity that can catapult your organization ahead of the rest. Case studies are one of the key components to making this happen.

Project Profile – Tom/Scot

The Tom/Scot is one of those unique multi-use projects that blends high-end residential with commercial architectural openings. Mixed within the 278 units are studios, one, two and three bedroom units. The complex also has a  2 story fitness center that includes a yoga room, climbing wall, spinning room and UFC room. Other amenities include a club room and business center with conference room.

Typically on a project of this size the sub-contractors and suppliers are all contracted at roughly the same time. 89A was introduced to this opportunity later than the other subcontractors due to the ongoing design and procurement changes involving Division 8710 of the construction scope.  Supporting 89A with Hager’s one brand solutions, we were able to engineer and supply both mechanical & access control door hardware in the different grades required, maintaining the variety of this multi-use project. Our 3400 Series locks, 4500 Series exit devices and 5200 Series closers were supplied on the exterior and high use common areas which needed Grade 1 hardware while our Grade 2 3600 Series, with an adjustable backset, was used for the apartments interior doors.

Thanks to Hager team members Adam Rummler with Hager Southwest and Jeff Halverson with Unified Solutions who were integral in assisting 89A’s procurement efforts.

NFMT 2016 – Recap

We are back from the NFMT Show in Baltimore and as always, we had a great time. This is a terrific show to see, and listen to the people who install and maintain our hardware.

The Hager Team arrived in Baltimore Monday to bright blue skies.  After a stop to drop off luggage at the Hilton Inner Harbor we headed to the Baltimore Convention Center to organize the product displays, giveaways and literature in our booth.

Prefab(ulous) Beach Facilities Post – Sandy

     After Superstorm Sandy devastated so much of New York City on October 29, 2012, “a day at the beach” took on a whole new meaning. Post-storm, the hundreds of miles of New York City’s shoreline remained, included the 14 miles of beaches managed by the City. But many of the facilities at the beaches, including rest rooms, offices and lifeguard stations, were gone. The storm literally washed them away.

     Summer holidays and New York beaches go hand in hand. Pre-storm, millions of people flocked to the City’s beaches – Coney Island, Rockaway, Orchard Beach, South Beach, Midland Beach, Cedar Grove, Wolfe’s Pond Park and Manhattan Beach – between Memorial Day and Labor Day for fun in the sun, beach volleyball, boardwalks and amusement rides, entertainment and great food. But a storm like Sandy could change everything and almost did.

     These beaches are iconic, as are the restaurants, concession stands and shops that keep these places hopping night and day. That’s why the determination to rebuild has been incredible. Business owners learned that although the storm was quick and shocking, the rebuild process could be slow.

Lock Function Chart

We are in the process of uploading a BHMA lock function chart to our website to make it easy to quickly match what lock function is being specified to our Grade 1, Grade 2 & Grade 3 locksets. This chart will be able to be found under Resources / Product Information / Locks.

Founded in 1925, as the Hardware Manufacturers’ Statistical Association, the Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association (BHMA) role has been developing standards for the wide range (and getting wider) of builders hardware. There are three levels of grades for locksets based on the number of cycles an owner can expect the product to withstand. Grade 1 is the heaviest duty, passing 2,500,000 cycles while Grade 3 passes just 350,000 cycles. The price difference between Grade 1, Grade 2 and Grade 3 varies and may present an occasion to save the owner money on a project. Specifying a Grade 1 lock on a main entry office door is highly recommended but there is opportunity to save dollars by utilizing a Grade 2 lock on a door opening used less frequently, like a closet door. That said it is important not to undersize the lock grade on a door opening in order to save money as it could cost more in repairs in the future. More …
