The Southerly is a multi-family community that offers a contemporary lifestyle with all the modern conveniences. Besides the high-end amenities like a heated saltwater swimming pool and bocce and cornhole courts, making sure the tenants were safe was a prime consideration when the architects and developer were planning this project.
Mitchell Sales, our sales representatives in Maryland, worked closely with the architect to develop a comprehensive door hardware package that took into consideration the design vision and the security needed, while complying with all life safety, ADA, and building codes.
One of the challenges in specifying hardware for a multi-use building are the different grades of hardware and finishes that can be used. For the public areas that see more traffic, Grade 1 or Grade 2 hardware is necessary to withstand the day to day abuse. Grade 2 or Grade 3 hardware can be used in the living quarters, where the hardware receives less use. A decorative finish and style may be used for public areas while a more contemporary look may be used in the living quarters.
Safety and security was also a priority for the developer and architect. Mitchell Sales steered the discussion on electronic access control and made sure the system was designed to work exactly how the architect envisioned.
Our HS4 electronic access control system was chosen due to its customizable design able to use different platform types for various door openings. These include standalone, virtually networked, wired and wireless components, all working within a single intuitive software system.
The Southerly is located in the Towson, Maryland area. We enjoyed being part of this project that brought sophistication and contemporary living to the residents.
