In its second year, the Great Oaks Charter School is part of a collection of schools that includes Academia Antonia Alonso School and Kuumba Academy. The building was originally a bank, operating as MBNA then Bank of America. It was donated in 2012 by Bank of America to the Longwood Foundation to start the Community Education Building (CEB).

It is always a balance between the financial challenges of a school project and the knowledge that the door hardware needs to withstand the abuse kids naturally create in their exuberance. For this project, to secure the doors we used our Grade 1 3800 Series mortise locks with Archer lever style, along with our Grade 1 4500 Series exit devices.
Parallel arms were used on the 5200 Series door closers wherever possible to prevent kids from jumping up and holding onto the closer arms. To prevent doors from being pushed open to far on non-fire rated doors our 7000 Series overhead stops were installed.
Our sales rep, Joe Hoddinott with Hardware Specialty Group, was very involved in this project from start to finish. Joe wrote the specifications, assisted the different distributors initially quoting the project, helped Premier Door, Frame and Hardware once they were awarded the project and also spent a day with Eric Crossan, the photographer who took these great photos.
A special thanks to Dave Magill with CEB for escorting our photographer, Eric Crossan and Sales Rep. Joe Hoddinott through the building during the photo shoot.
