Continuous Improvement and Training Manager - Montgomery, AL

Position Summary

Manage a support staff by performing duties related to continuous improvement initiatives & development of internal resources. This position is responsible for measuring and testing processes and procedures focusing on improving production efficiency. This manager must identify new metrics for judging efficiency, work with CIT Team trainers to develop curriculum to bring hires to peak efficiency quickly, drive the desired culture and increase employee retention.

Job Functions:
  1. Lead the CIT team consisting of Engineering, training, and other technical staff to improve plantwide training programs and provide employees with a development path for growth and advancement within Hager.
  2. Drive the continuous improvement of processes and systems in company and implement programs that will have continuing long-term benefits to better develop internal resources
  3. Develop plans, schedules, and budgets for continuous improvement projects to improve existing processes, increase efficiency and reduce costs
  4. Review training curriculums, define topics for plantwide training and develop training information to better enable us to improve employee skill at all levels of the organization
  5. Monitor existing processes to make sure they continue to perform at optimal levels of efficiency and to ensure processes return to standard if abnormalities are found
  6. Assist in KPI development & tracking to ensure all CIT Team employees understand the desired results
  7. Prepare CIT team budgets and drive adherence to them to ensure that the CIT Team is self-sustaining long term
  8. Supervise and direct the work of CI department staff.
  9. Develop new Continuous Improvement projects
  10. Work with other Departments on small projects (Layouts, Work instructions, Standard work, Miscellaneous projects)
  11. Improve manufacturing processes using work simplification, automation, and integration.
  12. Develop a continuous improvement / lean program
  13. Closely interact with Production, Distribution, Engineering and Quality Managers
  14. Coordinate training / equipment needs requests
  15. Lead lean events and activities
  16. Serve as a resource for Montgomery facilities cost reduction projects
  17. Develop current & future year improvement project schedule
  18. Assist in job description updates
  19. Work with outside vendors on design, quotation, recommendation, procurement and implementation of any specialized equipment or machinery.
  20. Assist in training support of Manufacturing Engineering and other personnel in engineering techniques
  21. Perform other duties as assigned or required.
Position Qualification Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in industrial or Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and supervisory experience and training.
Experience: Minimum of five years production experience required prior to entry into position. Must be able to use a computer. Experience using Excel, spreadsheets, PowerPoint, simulation, project management and CAD or SolidWorks software.

Skills/Knowledge: Requires broad knowledge of manufacturing management and control as well as management and supervisory practices along with the ability to apply principles of logical thinking to draw valid conclusions to solve practical problems and deal with situations where only limited standardization exists.

Physical Activities/Demands: Normal office environment which requires the ability to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and see. Light physical work. The employee is required to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, or otherwise move objects.
